Christmas at Orchard... Oh No!
I haven't done a thing for Christmas. Haven't bought cards, presents, or sent out any form of greetings.
I have loads of work to do. Rushing day in, day out, and I have been sleeping at 2-3am for the past few days. That's probably why I don't feel like it's Christmas. No mood whatsoever.
Tomorrow is Xinrui's wedding dinner, and I would have rather looked forward to it, if not for the fact that the banquet's held at Marriot. Orchard Road! For a long time, I swear I'll avoid Orchard in the 10 weeks leading to Christmas, until it is over, because the crowds are absolutely unbearable. And then, now I am left with no choice but to squeeze with everyone else. I shudder to think of the scene.
I wish Christmas is more family warmth than commercial hype, but it doesn't seem to be the case here. I miss Christmas in Shanghai, where we have a get-together dinner and there are no horrid crowds (there are, at other times though) because Christmas is NOT a public holiday. I whined and whined about it then, now I appreciate. Orchard Road is hell, it is miserable to be stuck in the jam for 1.5 hours (it is not a particularly long road), not being able to squeeze up the MRT, and the meaning of Christmas seems to be lost on many people who are out there gleefully going ho ho ho. I am not against anyone feeling happy and celebrating, but why must the whole entire world be out on ONE road at the same time?! So many Singaporeans think they mustlead one life, watch one TV station, read one newspapers, squeeze on one road, huh?
I'd rather be at home sleeping or working... sigh!
(P.S I used to spend every Christmas staying out, literally sleeping on the streets at Orchard Road when I was a teenager. I can only say I'm glad I grew up.)
