The Swimmer in Me

I am so bored, this is my 3rd entry in a day.

Went swimming with Chris today. Went with Rene yesterday too, to get ourselves fit for our Mt Kinabalu climbing trip in 4 weeks' time. I tell you, Hougang Swimming Complex was so full of kids in pyjamas doing their survival lessons, it was impossible to swim in a straight line. I got kicked twice, once rather painful, between my 6 laps.

The pool was so dirty. There were white stuff floating around in the blue waters, and these look suspiciously like:

1) mucus
2) phlegm
3) dead skin
4) wound dressing gauze
5) band aid/ handyplast (I didn't figure the brand)

(Yes, Rene, the handyplast we saw in the pool last night was still floating around this afternoon. In the exact same area at the middle of the pool!)

How gross! So I got out of the waters after only 6 laps. Chris and I will be going tomorrow morning, when it is less crowded. Hopefully, someone has removed the handyplast and the water has cleaned itself of the floating mucus. Though, I doubt.

So, I swam yesterday and today. Just a few laps at a time (Rene and I did 12), and I'll go *pant pant pant*. Sigh! Last time (yar, you know, when policemen wore shorts...) I used to do 30-40 laps each time I went swimming alone. I'd just swim and swim and swim, and before I knew it, it was 40 laps and my stomach was rumbling and it was time for mee siam*. That was when I was young and fit and 19.

Now, age is catching up on me. Plus, I haven't been training at all. Looks like I really need to put in hard work to get fit, else Mt Kinabalu will kill me. Aww... in agony.

*Rene and I were wondering why we would always have this craving for mee siam at the pool's cafeteria. Since we attended primary school together, is it a my-school thing?
