Chin Chai-ness
The first task I took to this bright cheery morning was to make a call and provide some "valuable customer feedback". You see, we are going to learn conversational german. I am excited, that is because I have alot of time on hand to plan every nanosecond of my thrilling life.
Class was supposed to start on the 27th Sep, but it was postponed, and we were not informed of the postponement and the new date. So I made 2 calls, last Thursday and today, and the lameness and rudeness I got from the girls made me real angry.
"Oh, we'll call you tomorrow to confirm."
"I expect your call. I don't want to miss lessons because no one informed us class has started."
"Oh SURE!!" (She said her "SURE!" in a sing-song bimbotic excitable high-pitch voice)
I waited 6 tomorrows. And NO calls.
Tsk tsk. Anyway, Hani who spoke to me this morning informed that class will start on 11th Oct. At least she confirmed the date, and she also started making calls to us immediately after I put down the phone - Chris got her call, myself too.
I have learnt, that without raising the voice, you can grill lame people and corner them so that they give you what they were supposed to. Many people promise you the sky and deliver fart, especially in the country where I used to work. There is nothing wrong with their character - they make fine loyal friends and they are nice to small animals. But somehow, they disappoint when it comes to their profession. They think it is perfectly fine that they NOT do what they are paid to.
Sometimes, people make genuine mistakes because of miscommunication. Or, forget things because they are overloaded with other work. Or, face unreasonable demands made by customer-who-think-he-is-always-right. Establishing common understanding works better than grilling them, for who wants to be defensive all the time when they have already put in efforts?
But when it comes to people who give you the chin-chai attitude "Aiyah, nevermind lah, pretty girl! I promised you something, but you make do with nothing lor, because I'm too busy polishing my nails and chatting with my boyfriend on the phone during office hours" I really grill them and hope they feel lousy about their attitude. Lameness irks me to no end.
